Hi, I’m Rodney …
I’ve been a professional photographer for more than four decades. As a teenager, I learned photography from my dad, a semiprofessional photographer, and freelanced for my hometown newspaper before attending Ball State University to study photojournalism. From there I went on to have a lengthy and successful career as an award-winning newspaper and freelance photojournalist.
During that time, I discovered that the one thing I loved shooting more than most any other was people. So, eager for a new creative challenge, I started sharpening my skills as a portrait photographer. In 2007, alongside my full-time career shooting for a local newspaper, I started Rodney Margison Photography in the small artist colony of Nashville, Indiana, and, a few years later, returned to college to study fine art and commercial photography at San Francisco’s highly acclaimed Academy of Art University.
Now, with news photography behind me, I am passionately fulfilling my creative vision as a fine art, editorial, and commercial portrait, food, and product photographer.
I have a private photo studio just off the downtown Square in Bloomington, Indiana, and regularly shoot on location throughout the Midwest—I am available for destination assignments worldwide.
My wife, Linda, and I have been married for more than 35 years and live on the south side of Bloomington. I am also the managing editor and director of photography for Bloom Magazine, Bloomington’s culture and lifestyle magazine.
Linda and I have two adult sons—one living in Niles, Michigan, and the other here in Bloomington—and two adorable (but mischievous) cats. When not making photos or working for Bloom, I enjoy reading, running, kayaking, and traveling.
